Recently built a new machine, dual-booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10. I installed Windows first, then partitioned everything for Ubuntu's install on a second hard drive. Everything runs fine when I am able to boot into either of the two, though the Ubuntu hangs at boot occasionally.

I'll see the OS GRUB menu, select the top (of 4) Ubuntu entries, and wait. I'll make it to the white Ubuntu splash symbol and things hang up. I reset and repeat, and usually after a few tries, I am able to get into Ubuntu. It is a minor inconvenience having to reset over and over again, and Ubuntu works flawlessly once I am running; I'd just like to sort this out so that I can better enjoy my machine.

As usual, any help will be greatly appreciated.

This is a well-known problem. There are several bug reports regarding this.

Sometimes pushing return when the boot hangs even when there isn't a prompt will bring you further.
