View Full Version : I want to be smug about Linux (Ubuntu) in 2011

I was just reading news from the Pwn2own contest and learned that Linux is not part of the festivities. It's not explained why but I can assume because the user base isn't large enough to warrant the attempt. Still I'd like to see it part of the contest. According to (Pwner)Charlie Miller the Linux OS would not be hard to hack. http://www.oneitsecurity.it/01/03/2010/interview-with-charlie-miller-pwn2own/
So let's petition to have Linux included and possibly Ubuntu be the flavor ?

To my mind.......

.......and I know nothing of this hacking stuff.....

linux kind of doesn`t count because the user sets it up as they wish.

Maybe with default installs ------

It would have to be default installs, with all current patches and updates, just like all the other operating systems. I'd like to see it simply because any time people set out to destroy the security, we find its real weaknesses and can improve it.

And I'd have to say anyone expecting it to survive unscathed is fooling themselves. I'd bet even OpenBSD would be in a tough place to survive without a single fault. Ubuntu would probably go down right alongside Windows 7 and Mac OSX.
