disabling nautilus [keep aligned] check box?

Hi, I am wondering how to disable the [Keep Aligned] Check Box in the Desktop right click menu permanently. I have already tried in the gconfig-editor with no luck. Because I prefer a tighter icon layout on my desktop so that I can fit more icons on my desktop.
I have also streached my icons to the smallest size available to save more room.

I am having the same trouble using GNOME in Ubuntu 11.04. Has anybody found a solution for this?
