I have two pretty crappy desktops.
Both have 20gb hard drive space.
And like 328mb of ram i believe?
One has 9.10 on it.
It works okay I guess.
Alot better than windows xp did.
Think I could upgrade?

According to this (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements) yes you can upgrade. But maybe you would like to switch to Xubuntu. If you want to do that firat remove ubuntu-desktop with
sudo tasksel remove ubuntu-desktop
and install xubuntu-desktop
sudo tasksel install xubuntu-desktop

You might want to consider xUbuntu or Crunchbang Linux.

I have installed ubuntu minimal with xfce4 several times in virtual box. I only give it 300Mb of ram. It runs great and I can install all the apps I use. I do not install gdm so I log in from the command line which seems to save a lot of resources. I have done it in 9.04, 9.10 and now twice in 10.4. I think when 10.04 is released I will make it my main distro. This is not Xubuntu. I think it would run well for you. I also like the same type of install using LDXE but it lack a few thing s that XFCE4 has.
