At the moment I'm running Wicd Network Manager and was just wondering if there was a general consensus as to the best wireless network manager out there.

No general consensus, just a lot of heated debate. They both have their issues so if it's working for you stick with it. I've used both and none at all.

Intel (R)Pro Wireless 3945ABG in Dell Inspiron wicd works best for me
Broadcom BCM4321 in Dell Inspiron wicd works.
Intel wifi link 5100 AGN in Toshiba both work I can not see a difference.
