I started a new forum on my old server. I guess you could say it's for those mindless babblings that do not belong elsewhere. The forum rules are nice as well as fear-inducing:

I reign supreme here. I don't NEED a reason
to ban you or delete your post. IF I don't like your post,
it might go missing. Curse words are perfectly acceptable,
and personal attacks only when clearly deserved. Oherwise,
I really don't care. Windows users might get a bit of extra hostility.

Mail does not work on this yet, I have no MX record, so there will be no notifications. Other than that, babble away:

im registered with enough websites, tyvm. Sorry, I wish I could. Thing is, if I allowed anonymous users to post, I could delete their posts, but could not permanently get rid of them. They could just keep coming back and posting more crap. But yeah, it would be nice if I could get rid of the need to register.

Can anyone give me an example of a message board that isn't onto a proper website and yet is successful and has people regularly posting on it and joining it?

Well I just found http://www.forumfr.com/ which has 100 000+ users and is not related to a website.

Beside that, I agree you, people won't come if there's nothing to talk about.

If you guys are worried about irritating notifications in your inbox, you have to subscribe to the forum category/thread. It won't bug you just because you replied. Oh, and I got mail working.

its a clone of a discussion forum that goes back a decade and change. i used it cuz i know the guy that runs the clone, and i like it's simplicity.

not that the forum is actually getting populated with enough information that i am answering questions by pointing folks to other posts in the thread, the time may be coming to migrate to vbul or something.

Look, a forum without restriction, and a disclaimer to that effect, with an adult age limit = to 97% of the countries in this world would be interesting, but doing what has already been done (and absolute post control, which in theory has always existed, but rarely admitted to) is just replication,,,

And, if you eliminate anonymous posts you eliminate posts without the need to be Overlord.
