Hi All
Just installed latest ubuntu netbook remix (for my eeepc).

I can't customise the desktop the way I like it. On Debian I used to drag/drop the top panel and place it to the right.

With this install the top panel is locked on top, gconf 'locked' checkbox is unlocked.

Is this a bug or a feature? can we work around.
Cheers,
Phi

I don't think drag and drop has been available for a while in Ubuntu (for panels). Right click on the panel, select 'properties' and pick your preferred orientation.

I don't think drag and drop has been available for a while in Ubuntu (for panels). Right click on the panel, select 'properties' and pick your preferred orientation.

The drag& drop feature was removed some versions ago as people were accidentally dragging their panel to desktop sides, and that tends to break the applet layout and many weren't able to fix it on their own. (although if I remember right it used to be possible to drag a panel between top/bottom, or left/right but not from top to right, for example. Doesn't seem to work that way in 10.04 though).

Like ubername suggested, you can use the pane properties to move a panel between horizontal & vertical setups. Or gconf-editor, of course.

Thanx Ubername,

It was written in front of me 'orientation' and I was probably dis-oriented so I could not read it. It is funny how habit can be created,I used to drag/drop, I understand why it was not [menu] settable for accidental moving, but I was stuck on drag/drop.

Thanx again
Cheers,
Phi

I meant 'it was now'
not 'it was not'

Sorry for the typo

Hi,

If drag has been disabled, how do I get new panels on multiple monitors? The settings window doesn't know about multiple monitors.
