How do I remove the menu from the desktop? It was not there before the 9.10 upgrade.

Not sure what menu you mean.. the panel menus? Ive never had any others except when using AWN or Docky... or maybe Gnome-do or Screenlets

It was the netbook process. I removed it and the menu on the desktop are now gone and the machine runs much faster! (AMD 1200)

Were you on a different desktop environment such as XFCE?

In Gnome you can set up auto-hide by right-clicking on it, but that's just hiding it. It's still there in reality.
