Is there a way that I can use each work space like a separate desktop? I'd like to set it up so that each one has different icons/links on it. I'd like to use each workspace for a different purpose.

For example, I currently have ubuntu hardy heron setup with 4 workspaces. I rarely use more than one. I'd like to set the first one up for work related things with work related icons on it.

I'd like to set #2 up with all my garden oriented stuff on it because that's a major ongoing project here.

I'd like to set #3 and #4 up for research papers that I'm working on. The only icons on these desktops would be links and pdfs of resources that I'm using.

Is this possible? I get the impression that it isn't but it certainly would make the separate workspaces much more useful.

Well, in short I guess it's no, but you could read this (on page 2 it's getting interesting):

I to would really like a feature like this :)

That is interesting. Why can't I vote in the brainstorming thread?

Is this possible in KDE but not gnome?
