While I think it's great that Google is no longer censoring its Chinese search results, I'm afraid the Chinese government will not tolerate this for too long. How long will it take for the government of China to enforce its will against Google servers in Hong Kong?

(PS: Let's keep this about online censorship rather than anti/pro-China politics.)

It seems that this move was partly in retaliation against a cyber attack originating from China. http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/new-approach-to-china-update.html

Under the One Country, Two Systems agreement, China cannot enforce anything like that in HK. So no worries :D

From what I've heard the Chinese media have twisted this into Google betraying the people and some people are saying "Google go home! We still have baidu!"

I don't think people there even have the information available to realize why this was necessary.

I understand that they had to do it, and i respect them for doing it, it was the right thing to do. But lets not mistake what is happening for a good thing.

How long will it take? Like, before you even posted it, China has added the filters and three major contracts (of mobile companies and you name it) with Google have been cancelled. Asia doesn't need Google, its the next place to be in the near future.
