I never realized that posts on the forums would appear in a Google search so fast. I'm not talking about just the question/answer and bug report stuff, but the community cafe stuff as well.

Try a search for a post title and you'll likely see it listed on the first page of results.

Try a search on your user name + ubuntu if needed and you'll get something like this:

All I can say is wow.

Google has alot of spiders on the forum, and a well established site can get indexed extremely fast in Google.

Google has alot of spiders on the forum (hidden as Guests), and a well established site can get indexed extremely fast in Google. My question would then be, do we want the community cafe indexed? Can't a spider be redirected so as not to index. I think I remember something about coding that in the header of a page.

Even more to the point, what other information (resolution center etc.) might be sucked up?

Creepy.

Google doesn't just get updates by crawling; though it's possible that's still the case here. It can also track RSS feeds (indexed via FeedBurner and Google Reader updates), blogs (http://blogsearch.google.com/ping), and other things pushed to it, which can explain the near-instantaneous indexing you see.

It was a little tongue-in-cheek. But yeah, it could explain the vast quantities of spam (though in reality it's not that bad).

there is also a really useful custom Ubuntu google search:
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=012285703143635244993%3Ai9yr8qlpb18&q=

i find it more useful than the regular google.com/linux search.

you can make your own custom search here:

I still remember when you had to use http://www.google.com/addurl/ to have any chance of being in the index. :P

I still remember when you had to use http://www.google.com/addurl/ to have any chance of being in the index. :PThe ODP I was referring to was before GOOGlE was anything. Yahoo was the powerhouse then and almost everybody (search engines) got most of there listings from the ODP.
