Smuge in Images

Hi, I've 10 images which have text on them, the text is small but visable, I would like to somehow smuge the text on the images so it's not as noticable, can anyone recommend a way please, many thanks

Open in GIMP.
Use the rectangular selection tool to enclose the area with the text.
Choose Filters...Blur...Pixelise and set it at about 20 or so (experiment).

If you just want to do little bits manually there is also a smudge tool - it look like a little hand with index finger pointing.
