Hi All

I'm trying to get the good lady working on Ubuntu 9.10 but she refuses to use Open Office. I have seen the tut's on how to install MS Office 2003 using Wine, i should be ok installing this.

Question: After installing MS Office 2003 onto a laptop using Wine how do i install the MS Office 2007 Compatibility Pack.

Iv'e been googling for a while and can't find a thing.....

Thanks in Advance.

Hi,
uninstall MS Office 2003 from control panel and install MS Office 2007 If you dont need MS Office 2003 (I think after install of 2007 2003 is not necessary) :)

Do you have a copy of Office 2007 handy....because i don't....

:-)

Hence my needing to install Office 2003 ...then the Compatibility pack....

What a useless suggestion!

If they had MS Office 2007, they'd obviously use that. The compabitility pack is to allow people with Office 2003 to work on Office 2007 documents.

Don't use Wine but from what I was able to find out, only individual Viewers can be installed. Like the MS Word viewer and the PowerPoint viewer. Unfortunately, those don't allow you to change the new "X"format MS Office files, only to read them.

You should check the Wine subforum to see what suggestions they have.

Also, I believe the newest version of Crossover may support this. But you would have to go the their website to find out. And, Crossover Pro is not free.

I did quite a bit of googling on this subject last week and i found that most people actually used Wine to install MS Office 2003.

My plan was to use one of their tutorials for the installation.

I'll have a poke around in the Wine sub forum before going further.

Thanks

Yeah, I know.

But MS Office 2003 is not the problem; getting the 2007 Compatibility Pack to install is the problem. From what I read, folks have not been successful in making that happen.
