Hi! I am a new Linux/Ubuntu user and feel slightly overwhelmed by this process, but believe in it fully....
SO, here is my main difficulty... I have loaded & upgraded 8.04 successfully and have upgraded to 8.10 successfully...
But, when I upgrade to 9.04, I have had numerous problems. The first time I did it, all I had was a user name and password prompt before my screen went completely blank.
I reloaded 8.04 and worked up the ranks again to 8.10 then 9.04 and that time, there was only a blank black screen, but I could hear the brief welcome music. Is there any way to upgrade or should I just stick with 8.10? My computer is a laptop from Dell and is approximately 10 years old. It originally came with the Windows XP system.
Thanks!!! :)

In your place I will wait for a month and then try to upgrade from Hardy to Lucid. Both are LTS so you can upgrade directly. It can also be graphic card issue, but I´m not an expert for that,so I will leave that to someone with more experience.
