subtitle problems

I have two movies that I need subtitles for.

One is .avi

one is .divx


I am brain dead at the moment and cannot remember how to do it.

So, PLEASE, either tell me the CLI way/give me the commands, or

tell me how to do it using Gnomesubtiltes or Subtitle editor as I have those at the moment.


I also have an .avi that has subs in one langauge with subs in another language over the top of them on a DVD... How can I get that sorted out such that either I have two seperate sub files and I can pick one or the other, or have them on at the same time just one on top of the screen, one on bottom.

Oh, I forgot to add I am on Jaunty and using a Lenovo SL500..
