Upgrading Dell Netbook from 8.04 to Karmic

When I attempt to upgrade using the software for updating and upgrading, it doesn't find any upgrades, although I am using 8.04. I have tried to use the comand line 'sudo apt-get update' and 'sudo apt-get upgrade' but they do not find anything. Im stumped, I wonder if it is some modification that dell made to make it look in their repository?

I think you would be better off backing up your home folder and just doing a clean install of 9.10. Otherwise, you will have to update to 9.04 prior to 9.10 as there will be no way to go from your version straight to Karmic and quite a few things can go wrong when "Upgrading". Just a thought.
