Hiya: I have been reading http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1040332

which was written like a year ago, so Im kinda re asking:

Does the speed dramatically increase (up to 3 times), as some members claim, or is it, as some others claim, for a regular Ubuntu user, a waste of time?

And, if I finally decide to go ahead with it, this is what I plan to do:

1) I have an external hard drive with plenty of space, where I will cut and paste all the data I want to keep, leaving just the OS in my laptop.

2) Now I should upgrade: I have found 2 how to's online: http://maketecheasier.com/how-to-upgrade-from-ext3-to-ext4-without-formatting-the-hard-disk/2009/04/21

and http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/upgrade-ubuntu-810-to-ubuntu-904-and-ext3-to-ext4/

Are those reliable sources?

Has any of you ever had problems with the process? if so, what happened?

Cheers

For me I experienced a huge performance boost in file copy and boot up times after shifting from ext3 to ext4.

It is kinda' faster, but I dont know if this is just a false impression from placebo effect.
