I would recommend going to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:2 and finding yourself a great theme, one of the great things about firefox. I'll admit the default firefox theme annoyed me but it's so easily changed :D

Firefox uses GTK? Could've fooled me. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XULRunner)

To OP: Why not just remove the bookmarks bar, and just use the bookmarks menu? :| In fact, not only do I do that, but I move the Back/forward/refresh/stop/location bar/search bar to the top line with the menus, then remove the navigation bar and then have tabs open all the time. Much better this way.

I agree. Remove the Bookmarks toolbar, and just use the menu part. Basically makes it just look like Windows version.

Firefox uses GTK?

Firefox uses GTK, not QT, not WxWidgets, not TK.

It mimics GTK. It's not really GTK.

" Linux (with the following libraries installed: GTK+ 2.10 or higher, " (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Firefox#System_requirements)

also its possible to hack Firefox to use GTK-1, that is used by Damn Small Linux.

As I understand it, Firefox renders GTK widgets off screen and basically duplicates the output to its own UI via a series of hacks. That's why it needs and looks like GTK, but doesn't act like it. I suspect that's why it's crazily slow, too. (Don't worry; if memory serves me right, they're working on it).

As for the arrows, I think you're going to have to get used to them. I haven't seen any GTK themes that don't do that. It's kind of a convention here that any button which expands into a menu should have a downwards arrow. Still, if you're intent, you could try a different theme at addons.mozilla.org . That would probably do the trick.

...Or you could use Chromium :b

Look at this screenshot for a minute:

As you can see, it looks different and corresponds more to the theme. Firefox is like that. If you change the system theme, you change Firefox's UI look. You see, Firefox is like a chameleon: It blends into the system it's on, which is why it looks different on GTK, Win32, or Aqua.

This has nothing to do with GTK theme as far as Firefox is concerned.

Refer : http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/7722/

and that's how you can remove those downarrow which is actually something specific to linux version of firefox.

and ya FIREFOX as far as i understand needs GTK to run but is actully based on XULRunner.
