if i install eclipse (or netbeans) from repos open jdk comes bundled. i already installed jre & jdk 1.6.0_18 from repos (i am using lucid)
is there a way to install without open jdk package?
Or would you suggest to build eclipse from source tar.gz from eclipse site?

Eclipse is incredibly easy to install by itself. Download the latest package appropriate for your hardware from the Eclipse project site, unpack the files into a directory to which you have full access (like \username\eclipse), and then run the eclipse program using the eclipse executable in the eclipse folder.
