User Login Problem

Hello everyone,

My name is hemang and i am new in ubuntu..i hv some basic knowledge of other linux distrubution..

I have a problem in my ubuntu 9.10 desktop. my user name password is not working after configuring root password. its says authentication fail.. can you guys pls help me to solve my problem.

What do you mean by set root password? By default, Ubuntu has the root login disabled for security and your user password is used to elevate to root privileges. Do you remember the commands you used?

Hi There,

Ya i know by default root login is disable. ok i will give u brief in this. i installed ubuntu 9.10 and i can able to login with my user name and password. i was in school and some command was not working so my lecturer ask me to set root password n i did it in GUI. But after set my root password i m not able to login with my user name password, it says authentication fail.

I hv also deleted and make new user but it gives me same error every time and only allowing me login in root.
