updatte grub 9.04

Hi, I'm still running JJ on my laptop and received a kernel update today. Normally the new kernel is put at the top of menu.lst, I reboot and all is well. With this update the new kernel is not added to menu.lst. I ran sudo update-grub again and it finds the new kernel but still won't add it. Any ideas other than manually editing menu.lst?
