A mansion, a couple of luxury cars, 2-3 small businesses and a small jet.

The rest will go to a savings account, and the interest from the savings account, and the income from the businesses will fund maintenance, fuel, insurance, and living cost for the rest of my life.

I think you'll find MS are worth a little more than 1bn :p

And what to they have to do with file sharing? You'd need to buy out the RIAA and MPAA for that...

Well, the first thing I would do is buy the most comfortble bed I could find and sleep. After that, I would buy a new house for myself and one for my parents. Nothing TOO big. I feel like living in some mansion would be pretty lonely with no neighbors. I'd buy myself a Nissan 350Z. Donate a few million and save the rest for when I need it.

1. Pay off current obligations
2. Invest a significant amount for retirement (IRAs, stocks, CD's, gold, etc.)
3. Get more formal education. I'd look to business, programming, and maybe agriculture.
4. Learn to fly (single prop fixed wing is all I'm really interested in)
5. Resume Aikido training
6. Maybe study Kendo, or western fencing
7. Buy land in Montana and Texas.
8. Maybe start a bison ranch
9. Take formal music lessons (piano and guitar)
10. Contribute to the NRA, GOA, and SAF
11. Construct an off the grid residence on my ranch. It will be designed to protect against the inevitable zombocalypse.
12. Buy some more guns
13. Learn to hand load
14. Learn gunsmithing
15. Open a pub

Not an option here in New Zealand. The 1 & 2 cent coins were abolished in the early '90s, and more recently the 5 cent coins.

If I had a billion, or even a few million, I'd do the usual (pay the bills, maybe a new house, car, and assorted tech-toys) and if there was anything left, make some of it available in the form of low-interest loans to the in-laws who seem to run into financial bother every so often with some of their activities.

Put half in the bank and the other half I'd convert to gold. Then I'd live for the rest of my life on interest.
EDIT: And buy The Columbia Supercluster (http://www.nas.nasa.gov/Resources/Systems/columbia.html) and figure out ways to make all 10,240 CPUs work simultaneously(It's probably impossible to do)
EDIT EDIT:Switch it from SUSE Linux Enterprise to Ubuntu

Buy a car for myself- something nice but not insane.

Donate to a ton of charities.
Give funding to some start-up companies, and Linux projects.
Get myself a T3 connection.
Finally get a damn router that doesn't suck.

All the norms - big house (fully networked), another big house somewhere warmer than Blighty, car, 'nother car, several computers with top spec hardware.

Important thing is that the aforementioned big house has a nice wooden-panelled office for me, with presidential desk and book-lined shelves. House would also have home-theatre, big screen, big seats.

I would probably buy a house fill one of it's big rooms with jelly then jump on it from somewhere really high, fund a project which creates impact-resistant chinchillas fill another big room with said chinchillas and lay in to the chinchilla storm.
With the remaining money I would run idiotic advertisements on TV and would probably pay someone to make a 'cola drinking Stalin' billboard.
