Upgrade from 8.04 messed up x-server horribly, so I'm going back to 8.04LTS...

Where is all the personal data normally, to back up externally?

And then, would it be better anyway to do a clean install? Hardy was in there for 2 years, and was behaving like Windows, especially after downloading 30 factory car manual torrents last month...

...OR, is an overwrite with IMPORT of documents and settings a sufficient way of 'housecleaning'???

Thanks

Reinstall is the only way, if you want to go back to Hardy, unless you've been imaging the whole installation regularly. All settings should be in your home folder, so backup /home and reinstall.
