If you go to distrowatch.com, and look at the right side, you will see a list of distros under the title `Page Hit Ranking`.

I had wondered what these 100 distros would look like if one grouped them by parent distro.

I did this just now (Mar 16 2010) according to *my* parent categories. And this is what I got:

distro name ... daily hits ... percentage of total
--------------------------------------------------
ubuntu: 9352 daily hits ... (29%)
independent: 4023 daily hits ... (13%)
debian: 3254 daily hits ... (10%)
fedora: 1878 daily hits ... (6%)
bsd: 1765 daily hits ... (6%)
red hat: 1596 daily hits ... (5%)
slackware: 1593 daily hits ... (5%)
gentoo: 1574 daily hits ... (5%)
suse: 1545 daily hits ... (5%)
mandriva: 1404 daily hits ... (5%)
arch: 1259 daily hits ... (4%)
puppy: 1049 daily hits ... (4%)
pclinuxos: 844 daily hits ... (3%)
solaris: 576 daily hits ... (2%)
knoppix: 394 daily hits ... (2%)
sidux: 360 daily hits ... (2%)
zenwalk: 353 daily hits ... (2%)
slitaz: 194 daily hits ... (1%)
lfs: 135 daily hits ... (1%)

BSD needs to climb up :/ I guess most people using it already know the site, and enough to use it.

It look like Ubuntu at the top spot for quite some time. Seem that no distro overtake them.
