I'm looking for something that will run on a 1999 laptop. 2gb hdd, 65mb RAM, etc. It's horrid. But is there anything currently supported that will run on it? It's my sister's and it currently has Windows 2000 and Windows 98 (dual-boot). I would like to purge it of both ASAP.

Regards, David. :)

Damn small linux will run on 16mb ram.

You can also use puppy linux if you use a version before 1.0.2

I also have a computer with 64mb ram.. I can really only recommend DSL or TinyCore. Anything else just doesn't work too well with it.

I got the newest Puppy to work on it, but since it won't read burned CDs, I installed it from a different computer on the hard drive that went inside the computer with 64mb ram. It ran alright, but had to run a lighter web browser.

It wasn't very fun to work on though.

So again, DSL or TinyCore.

If you get an SSD for it, you could try Google Chrome OS. That's probably as minimal as you could get....

You need to warn people when recommending early Pre-Alpha releases.

I'm running Puppy Linux 4.3 on an old 200mhz AMD K6 with 64mb ram . It is sluggish but it can do web browsing and chat and work with my USB wireless.

I can also run the latest Slitaz Linux, which I find to be twice as quick as the puppy linux 4.3, but I have trouble getting my wireless to work. I might not be doing something right though because I'm am very new to using wireless.
