What's your favourite 80's kids' movie?

Other than Star Wars / Indiana Jones mine is "Flight of the Navigator"

I'd have to go with Karate Kid 1. Two and three were lame.

Star Wars

Indiana Jones

not kids' movies.

"Flight of the Navigator"

good choice.

Mine are "The NeverEnding Story", "The Great Land of Small" (good luck finding it...I only saw it a couple of times but it stuck with me), anything by Don Bluth, and "The Adventures of Pippi Longstocking"

Hmm, not sure if they're kids movies, but here's my rundown (no on specific order):
- Cloak and Dagger
- The Last Starfighter
- Tron
- Goonies
- The Explorers
- Back To The Future (original... 2/3 = Lame!)
- Star Trek II-IV
... and if I thought hard enough I could probably come up with about a dozen more :)

I noticed that recently, too. It's annoying, but it's still a great movie.

My favorite scene is either when Chunk is spilling his guts about spilling his guts, or when he accidentally flags down the Fratelli's car (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qZzzvfSRwo) and starts singing the Hebrew blessing.

aw man, I completely forgot about The Last Starfighter, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, and Gremlins among others :D

I keep waiting for them to do a second Last Starfighter since they totally left it open. It'd be neat to see what'd happen if Zor did rebuild the Kodan Armada and attack Earth as revenge against Alex Rogan.

I could see a book or even just a short story being built on this. Hhmmmmm..

I'll be honest, I LOVED the movie, but unfortunately I can't watch anything Jeffrey Jones was in. I won't go into details, but here's more info (http://offender.fdle.state.fl.us/offender/flyer.do?personId=38561). People like this turn my stomach, even when I see them in stuff they did years ago since you don't just wake-up and become that way.

One thing now that you mention Matthew Broderick I should've had on my list was WarGames since that too is one of my fave movies of the eighties.

What about 'Home Alone'?

a.walker
March 18th, 2010, 05:06 AM
Home alone was released in 1990.

I'd say either "Goonies" or "The Last Starfighter"

My first pick was Blade Runner, but I guess that may not fit the criteria of 'kid's movie'.

Way too many to list here, so I'll just pick one year. 1987 was a good year:

From the Hip
The Lost Boys
Spaceballs
The Princess Bride
Lethal Weapon
RoboCop
Good Morning, Vietnam
Innerspace
Roxanne
Radio Days
Tin Men (I liked it)

I don't understand how many of you are quantifying some of your picks as "kids movies".

Terminator?
The Lost Boys?
The Right Stuff?

Anyone want to toss "Aliens" in there as family-friendly fare while we're at it? :|

Flash Gordon (loved the music by Queen)

I hated that film, but the music was just awesome. Queen were the supreme soundtrack masters in the 80s IMO, look only to Highlander for reference.

Ooh ooh! I know, I'm adding "Highlander" to my list of kids movies :O

I rather liked Adventures in Babysitting (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092513/) (1987). It's rated PG-13, but that's probably for language. Elizabeth Shue makes a remarkable debut in this movie, though it's a far cry from her Oscar-nominated turn in Leaving Las Vegas (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092513/).

I think this is still my favorite film by Chris Columbus (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001060/).

+1 for Popeye (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081353/), one of Robert Altman's best films, and that's saying a lot.

I'll also mention The Brave Little Toaster (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092695/) (1987), an excellent animated feature I remember watching with my then pre-school-aged daughter in the nineties.

The nostalgia... I love these types of threads! I was born in '84, so about 75% of the movies I have never heard of (we didn't have cable until my Junior or Senior year in HS --- and it was only basic). So, now I have a list of a couple dozen different movies that I need to check out! :)

People have already mentioned it, but my vote goes for Labyrinth. I love that movie. Even to this day. Ditto The Princess Bride. Believe it or not, but I didn't see The Goonies until I was in my mid 20's. Someone mentioned Batteries Not Included. That was great as well, and I totally forgot about how good it was until now!

What people didn't mention...

The Wizard with Fred Savage. I actually only found out about this film about a year ago because the Angry Video Game Nerd mentioned it in a video, and I had to check it out. Another one (that I found out about in another similar thread in this forum) was Ice Pirates. I know it's dumb, and disturbing, but in a good way! lol

The Wizard with Fred Savage was cool too. Jenny Lewis -Rilo Kiley anyone?

But since this is Kids movies I would have to with ET and Labyrinth as my faves.
