Hi, everyone,
I just installed my first Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) on one of my HP 64-bit machines. I installed Ubuntu alone on the hard drive - no dual boot. Works fine.
However, I have an external brand new 500Gb Toshiba USB hard drive, which I use for all my data files. The drive works fine, I have used it in many machines. When I installed Ubuntu I reformated it to Ext4. I have a /media/Alberto directory that represents that hard drive, and in my .bashrc I do a cd to that drive, and I have all my data files on that drive. I have also populated my desktop with assorted icons that point to my C++ project directories in that drive.
Well, when I boot my desktop icons do not appear. I start an XTerm and it says that there is no such directory as /media/Alberto. I wait for 5 minutes, nothing.
I can unplug and replug the hard drive to no avail. But if I just click once on the Trash icon on the bottom half of the screen, the icons appear, the /media/Alberto directory is ok, and everything is fine.
Has anyone any words of wisdom to impart to me ? Much appreciated!
