The Gracenote Media Database is a service that provides album names, song titles, and other information about audio CDs. iTunes connects to this database to look up information about the CDs you own so you can easily select which songs to listen to and sort and view your music library."

I was wondering what Banshee uses. I am ripping all of my CDs into WAV files and Banshee seems to handle it better than Rhythmbox. Rhythmbox would add .wav at the end of each song title.

I am wondering because iTunes recognized all of my CDs while Banshee has not recognized about a third of my CDs and I am about halfway done.

Banshee uses MusicBrainz http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MusicBrainz#Client_Software
I think Rhythmbox uses freedb

Thanks for the response/link.

I will probably end up submitting my CDs which should improve the database and now I know what that database that will be.

I've been adding all my cd's to musicbrainz service for ages using picard tagger, another thing that needs doing is adding missing info to albums as I still find quite a few albums that have missing release date or genre etc.

So editing the album with song titles, artist, album name and year in Banshee before importing will not update the Musicbrainz database?

If not, I can learn how to use Picard Tagger. It does not seem that complicated.
