I really dislike having the terminal black on white, and change it the very first time I open it to white on black/dark.

Anyone else?

Depends on the GTK colours. I mostly use the same colour as the window decoration for the background and black or white text depending on it.

I like white font on a black background with transparency set at a quarter of the way.

Light gray (#BBBBBB) on black. With transparency (20%) on laptops because of the small screen, without on desktops.

Green on black... because it looks old school. Sometimes if I am doing a lot of work in the terminal I will switch to white on black just so it is a bit easier on the eyes.

Green text on a black background - how a terminal is meant to look

That is exactly my thing too.

I didn't think of green on black.

I should have put that there too

White on dark purple, as I'm running 10.04 and stick to the default theme at least until the release.. :)

I always use white or light gray text on slightly transparent dark background. Dark text on light background just feels so wrong for a terminal... :D

White on Black.

And Black on White with a small font to make it look like notepad when around people, so they don't freak out when they realize I'm running Linux.

I always change it to green text on black background, because it makes me look more awesome.

Well actually, I just like it like that.

Well for me ever since I've been on Ubuntu it's been Black text & White background, now with Lucid it's White text & Purple background so I've kept is as is.

This might sound noob, but how would I got about implementing this? I have a feeling it has something to do with a file called Xdefaults, but I don't know much about that.

Yeah, you should paste that into the ~/.Xdefaults file, but it only makes effect on xterm and urxvt, not on gtk+ based terminals. You could copy and paste each hex code into the gnome-terminal preferences dialog...

White/colored text on a black background, same as IRC. I like how the termial on Unix-like OS's use colors to differentiate various filetypes. It's a big improvement over Microsoft's monochrome cmd.exe.
