Hi,
I am running Win-XP in my desktop with no service packs and partitioning. Core 2 duo, 80 gb harddisk 256 mb ram I want to switch to ubuntu when I install the cd it is giving me a msg disassembly not allowed. Please help

With that ram it will be better to try Xubuntu. (http://www.xubuntu.org/get) You can download it from here. (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/9.10/release/)After that read this. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto) You can dual boot if you want,but if you want to delete Windows partition back up all your valuable files before.Try Xubuntut from CD and see if it works for you.If it does install it and enjoy! ;)

If you have 4GB free you can try Xubuntu from a Wubi install.

If it works fine you can do a true install, but make backup copies first.
