I have just bought a new laptop. One of these: Sony Vaio E Series (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644699998&N=4294953240), and it is 64 bit capable.
What I'm confused about is why my Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu 9.10 (32-bit) live cd's won't run on this machine. I see the menu with the language select, and I hit the "Try on this computer without installing" thingy, then I get the flashing underscore line thingy for a few seconds, then it just stalls to a blank screen even though the CD drive still makes sounds like its loading, but after 10 minutes, no change.
What I want to know is if this is because its a 32 bit version and if downloading a 64 bit version of Ubuntu would work (I don't want to waste my bandwidth you see).
Or, is there something I've missed? I really really want to get rid of this evil windows 7 the company insists on installing on the machine. It's giving me headaches already and I want to go back to linux already :)
Thanks for any help
