I've been dual booting Ubuntu 9.1 with Windows 7 for a couple of months lately. Both OSes are 64 bit versions.
Ubuntu locked up after some light web browsing. After attempting a reboot, Ubuntu started going through memory tests. The memory tests complete and proceeds to a message stating something to the effect of "Ubuntu can't start...here's a recovery shell".
Windows 7 starts normally.
I've done a memory test starting from BIOS. It completed successfully saying there were no issues. I've attempted a recovery using the Ubuntu installation disk and no errors were found.
I don't mind reinstalling from scratch, but I can't access some files that I need to get to. When I load Ubuntu's "test" OS, I can see the files on my HD but I don't have permissions to manipulate the files.
Is there a way to access these files? Windows can't see the files because of a difference in file system types.
Some help would be much appreciated.
