hi:

anyone got any ideas on getting handwriting input to work on a table running Xubuntu, please?

Ideally I'd like to be able to write on the creen and have the text go into a file that is open in Abiword or OpenOffice WordProcessor.

Have you tried xournal? Use Synaptic Package Manager.

Have you tried xournal? ... .

xournal is great for keeping a handwritten journal as script, and is superb for annotating other people's pdf files, which I also need to do, so thanks for the pointer.

But what I mainly want to do is to use the pen to input as a pseudo-keyboard, so I get the same output as if I'd keyboarded it.

cell writer would be a better optionfor me than xournal, but I don't really want to write in cells, my ideal solution would be a package that allowed free form cursive handwriting. Any other suggestions please?

There's a commercial handwriting application. A trial version can be downloaded at http://www.visionobjects.com/handwriting_recognition/downloadstylus3.htm

CellWriter is another possibility. It's in the Ubuntu universe repository.

Hi,

I wrote this two years ago. It's a bit of a pain to set up, but after that it's been quite reliable:
InkServer (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8843960#post8843960).

It's an ugly hack, but it works well.

For my next trick, I'm gearing up to write a Note-taking-PIM application with integrated handwriting recognition. That will take a few months (as I am working for a living now).

If you search my other posts about setting up tablets with [XK]ubuntu, you will find a link to an Xstroke .deb another member created. That does kind-of single character recognition - like the old Grafitti on Palms.

But my approach gets full cursive handwriting recognition.

Cheers,
bcw

Hi, digging up an old thread. the only solution other than cellwriter that i can figure is
wayV http://www.stressbunny.com/wayv/

and configuring the wavy.conf to output letters based on alphabet similar to the old graffiti for palm.

Ideally I would prefer this app to be available to linux.

Hope this helps.
