My grandma just told me today.

what luck we have! Google apparently is forcing Charter to play competitively because of this, said my grandmother.

Also, official news: http://www.wkowtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=12121027

Lucky :(.
Apparently, it's coming to either of two big cities about 40 miles from my city, but won't make it to my area.

Be nice if and when the ISPs manage to get fibre-optic facilities up my street, but I doubt that's going to happen for a couple of years yet.

Oh, the wind's just come up here. I think we're in for a storm or something

I've just found out that Google itself is not providing the Internet service. What they're doing is that they're installing fibre optics so that OTHER ISPs can use the fibre optics.

This means Charter will have 1 GB/sec available in the near future (And I'm sure it'll be over 150 USD/mo, alone.)

Misleading title. Google has made no announcement, that news article just says "we hope to be one of the test cities". I wish you luck though :)

Nobody knows the details yet and the fiber is already in place. Google has been buying dark fiber for a few years. Change your title because it's very misleading.

It would be nice for Anchorage to get something like this. I feel like I'm in a barren wasteland in terms of technological advancement up here.
