Is this in the repos or do I have to get Dapper in order got try it out? If so, where do I download Dapper ISO?

According to XGL howto,
It won't ever be working on earlier versions without massive recompiling and manually installing a whole lot of things.
As for dapper, it's still a testing release, but you can get the Flight CD: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/flight4#head-95b182b361a7888e91fa0bc79d0b4e2ef644e8ea

Well, live CDs are best way to try features/distros without messing your system. That is, if you have the system specs for it (unlike me :( ). It's also one of the best things about UNIX-like OS'es (BSD included). You'll never see MS doing this stuff! :D

Just a note, Dapper Flight-5 (release candidate #5) is out. So you could probably download that and install it to try XGL out. :D
