Hi All,

I was trying to install lamp using tasksel.

I don't know what happened but everything has gone. And by everything I mean everything, only cli is left. GUI, apps, network, drivers everything has disappeared. I can't even do an apt-get

Any idea how I can recover from this goof up.

Reinstall from your latest backup?

It sounds like you have simply lost "X" but without more detail it is hard to know. What happens when you type:

startx

First of all, thanks for your reply.

Nah it was worse than that. Tasksel was giving me issues, so I was just trying to run through and by mistake selected one of those barebones installs, Tasksel did that by removing almost each and every component - X, network, drivers, almost all the apps.

And because it removed network I couldn't use apt or something to install the ubuntu-desktop.

Thanks
