View Full Version : [gnome] how to make "always on top" permanent

I use Tracker search and often want to open more than one item. If I right click the title bar of the Tracker window, I can select "always on top" which works for one search, until I close the window, then the next time I open Tracker, its back to the old behaviour (which is to be hidden by the opening window as soon as the selection is double-clicked)

Is there a way to make "always on top" permanent for one specific application?

-thanks,
Dave

Are you suing Compiz (the "Visual Effects")? If you are, you can use the Window Rules-plugin to do this.

Just Open CompizConfig Settings Manager (Install it if you haven't got it already), then enable the Window Rules-plugin and add your program into the "above"-field.

If you want this to work even when you have desktop effects disabled, there is also https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Devilspie
