When upgrading the kernel, Ubuntu opens a dialog on what to do with the boot menu (I have double boot). Each time I upgraded I had to think twice to re-grasp what the different options meant. I often end up with "Keep the current version" to remain on the safe side, since a wrong boot is too painful to repair. I then go back and manually update menu.lst to benefit from the new kernel.

In reality, end-users dont need that dialog, and experts could edit menu.lst manually to fit their needs.

Why not just silently update menu.lst to reflect the new kernel; after all, this is why I upgrade.

If the dialog is maintained, then I would have liked, as a first option, "Update the existing menu to use the new kernel".
