Hi All,

I am thinking about upgrading my Graphics card. Currently i have 8600 GT and it is working perfectly fine. Only thing is it is taking slightly more time to transcode.

I have enabled VDPAU and recording all the content in 1080i. Does getting GTS 250 or GTX 260 help in any way ??

While going through the documentation for VDPAU i came to know that GTS 250 and 260 series support the mpeg-4.

Any recommendations ??

Also is any one using the ATI Radeon Cards in mythbuntu ?? AFAIK the linux driver support for ATI cards is really sloppy (i might be wrong). I never had an ATI Card..

Thanks..

For a front end with vdpau it would be overkill. There is no need to go any higher than a GT220 w/512 memory, it already can do the highest level interlacing with no problems.

Video card will not help in your transcode speeds. Upgrade you CPU.

It might help a tiny bit....but its not worth it. +1 to "get a new CPU".

Hi All,

Thanks for your responses..

I have Q8200 CPU and it is not that out dated..

I recently tried 9800 GT (512MB) and didn't notice a considerable difference,, ( The previous card i had was 8600 GT 256 MB).

thanks..
