Black after logging in from terminal

I used wubi to install ubuntu and after restarting the computer, it prompt me to log in from terminal. After I typed my password, I entered startx and the screen went black. I had to restart the computer manually.
I've installed ubuntu using wubi on other computers before with no problems.
