I searched but I could only find threads about how to either Disable the gdm user list completely, or how to make it prettier.

On our installs, the user list seems to be sorted in a random manner.
I'd like to know how to change the GDM in two alternative ways and any help appreciated :)
E.g. Out of 20 users:
1. I only want to see 2 users (specified somehow). Happy to make all the others type their username in. Is this possible?
2. I only want to see the 2 most frequently used at the top of the list.

I've seen something about UID <500, but the UIDs are all over 1000, and changing them is a lot of work.:D

So should I RTFM, or does no-one here have the skills, or what?

In all releases before karmic, you could hide users from showing up in GDM (and all other users lists). I've been searching my a** off to figure out how to do this in karmic or lucid. So far I only figured out how to disable the user list.
