I've tried Thunderbird and KMail and I can't send e-mail. I get the error message:

Sending of message failed.
An error occurred sending mail: Unable to authenticate to SMTP server smtp.tx.rr.com. It does not support authentication (SMTP-AUTH) but you have chosen to use authentication. Uncheck 'Use name and password' for that server or contact your service provider.

However, authentication isn't checked.

What to do?

Thanks!

Check with your Internet provider about outgoing SMTP configuration. Most providers have web based help pages. If you have have a gmail account, you can use their servers for outgoing also.

What is the name of the e-mail provider you use? If it's gmail, I recommend you to tick in imap + untick secure authentication if it's enabled.

Check with your internet provider what port they recommend for e-mail also.
