Hi All

Linux noob at the helm.

I have recently uninstalled MS Vista and installed Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala onto my laptop.

I would like to upgrade the installed version of Mozilla Firefox to the latest 3.6 version but i keep hitting dead ends.

I have tried many ways of installing Firefox and all have so far failed.

I have tried the official instructions from the Mozilla website as well as many other possible ways of installing it from various forums.

Im starting to lose hope hehe.

All i seem to get is errors stating that 'This and That' have not downloaded or been installed.

Suggestions please guys and gals as im losing the will to live / use Ubuntu ;-)

Thanks in advance

Go to the Ubuntuzilla site. When you read it you will find two commands that need to be pasted in the terminal. These commands will enable the repositories with the Mozilla build of Firefox. Then open synaptic package manager. Reload and put firefox in the search box. Look for moxilla-build-firefox and install it.
When you are asked for a password in the terminal just type your password. It will not show but press enter anyway.

Ok....so i feel a bit silly now.

I still has my works proxy settings applied and im at home... *Feels stupid*

Resolved that issue and ran the Package Manager, all ok there.

I then selected the Mozilla Firefox update and downloaded / installed it.

Next problem: When i click on the Mozilla icon / shortcut it still loads the older version, not 3.6 ...

??

Helpskies....

Run:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

See if it downloads anything. ;)

Ok...

I ran the script you posted. It did 'Things'.

After stuff happened i had a 'Re Boot' request which i completed.

Post re boot i clicked on the Firefox shortcut and im still running on the older version.

Hhmm....

Odd.....

The command in the symbolic link is pointing to the old folder. You'll need to point it to the current folder. This happened to me as well, when I upgraded from 2 to 3.

Now, where is places it is tricky. I'm upgrading as well, but I thought it was /usr/bin, but only thebinary file is there, not installation folder. I found two entires in /etc as /etc/firefox and /etc/firefox-3.0 but there nothing in those except config data. So I tried /usr/share - and there it was. So make sure the, uhm...shortcut (by the way shortcut is a ******* term, so uhm try not to use it ;)) is linking to the correct folder.
