View Full Version : I Want Ctrl-Alt-Backspace Back

I'm sick and tired of having to switch the damned computer off at the mains every time it seems to be frozen (which, just lately, is whenever I've tried to log in to a Gnome session. What the hell have you done to Gnome? :o). I don't want to have to memorise a whole new arcane sequence of keys to get back to the log in screen. I want the ones I'm familiar with back and working.

Is it too much to ask? :(

And before anyone mentions ctrl-alt-F#, whatever Gnome is doing whilst it's not loading up affects that too.

Why did they remove it in the first place?

I mean... Who the heck accidentally presses those three keys in sequence? :-?

Xorg removed it by default. You can re-enable it by configuring HAL a bit, I did, and it works like a charm.

also you can put it back:
System > Preferences > Keyboard > Layouts tab > Options button > Key sequence to kill the X server

also you can put it back:
System > Preferences > Keyboard > Layouts tab > Options button > Key sequence to kill the X server

Yes, this is probably the easiest way to do it.
