I have Ubuntu 8.04LTS installed on my laptop with all kinds of engineering software that wasnt available through the package manager. Can I create a live DVD and install everything on my desktop without any big issues?

A little more information: I am really running CAELinux which is just Ubuntu preloaded with open source engineering software. I would have no idea how to put half of it back in. An iso file can be downloaded at www.caelinux.com My problem is the live DVD (almost a year old) will not run on my desktop. I am hoping that with the updates I have installed over the past year or so the new live DVD will run.

When the creator of CAELinux put the OS together he added quite a few scripts to properly install the software. I dont know anything about these scripts but Im assuming they would still be there when I create the new live DVD.

Any advice is greatly appreciated,

I should have mentioned the old live DVD works but I can only get the busybox terminal.
