Login Screen

I am trying to change how my login screen looks. I found the two commands that are needed to be entered. However, from what I can tell, at the login screen I am supposed to push ctrl+alt+f1 to get a command line to open. When I push the keys the login box flickers a bit but nothing opens.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there an easy fix for this?

I don't know about from the login screen, but when I did it from the desktop, I got a command line, all right! It closed the desktop completely down and the screen was all command line. Since I don't remember how to bring the desktop back up, I was forced to reboot (which was no problem, but...).

Perhaps that command doesn't work from the login window. Are you sure that's the right key combination to do what you're trying to do?

Figured it out! Boy do I feel dumb haha. My F keys on my dell mini also serve other purposes so I actually needed to press Ctrl+Alt+Fn+F1 to make it work.
