Window bar disappears upon reboot

I have a new problem on my ubuntu 9.10, the window bar (top part of the window where you have the minimize and close buttons) disappears once I reboot the sytem. To fix it I have to go into System/Prefferences/Appearance/Visual Effects and select either one of the three selections and after the message: „locating dirver„ it reloads the driver (I think) and the window bar shows up. But this is only till the next reboot. I reinstalled Compiz but that did not do it. Any ideas?? This problem started once I installed some new themes.
