I just installed ubuntu on my Win7 today. I got the wifi working then I was in the process of trying to solve my microphone problem. I downloaded something and I then rebooted to have the GNU GRUB version 1.97 problem. I got frustrated and I decided to just reinstall the whole thing all over again. I'm using the CD I burned and used the first time around, and now once it gets to the point where the new version is being installed, I get the permission denied, see log file problem. Please help. I really want to like Ubuntu, but at this rate I'm really frustrated.

You need to delete the old linux partition from your computer, totally delete it and attempt to reinstall on it again. You can use a program like easeus partition manager which works in windows 7 and it works well. Google it and it should be the first link on the page.

You will have to do this from windows, because that is a windows program. Once done, reinstall ubuntu and you should be good to go.
