I didn't know where to put this...

I need help with this... I have a homework... in which i need to make a calculator... (yeah... I know... why make one when i can go and buy one... I don't know... ask my professor xD)

Anyway... what i wanted to know is how do I know which is the correct integrated circuit, i know what the circuit needs to do... i just dont know how to ask for the correct integrated circuit...
I'm a total nub about this... up to now all i have done is lighting up a LED with a... something 7404 (i know the 7404 cuz it was on the book...)

If you could help me i'd be really happy :)

Well, even if it had been an applied electronics forum, we couldn't have helped you do your home work. Sorry. :)

I'm not asking you to do my homework... I'm just asking the way to find out which microchip to buy
