From within a shell (or even from within a script), I'd like to be able to access the gnome menu (e.g., Applications -> Internet -> <list of programs> ). Mainly, I would like to see what is there and what is launched. Where are the menu items stored? (I imagine in some xml file somewhere). Is there a good tool to access the gnome menu from within a shell? Programmatically? (maybe using gconftool-2, etc.) I've wanted to be able to do this for years, but have never been able to figure it out.

[right now, I'm using rumai (wmii) which is what prompts this question]
